DAYTON, Ohio – Parallax Advanced Research’s U.S. Air Force Academic Partnership Engagement Experiment, or APEX, program was given the opportunity to partner with the Dayton Regional STEM School located in Kettering, Ohio on their inaugural Virtual Career Fair that took place on February 25th.
Early in the school year, the STEM School made the decision to host the career fair virtually due to COVID-19. Parallax’s APEX was invited to showcase a virtual booth that included videos, information on the company and its programs, and a live chat feature where students could ask questions.
APEX is a Department of the Air Force Partnership Intermediary Agreement that increases the likelihood of success in the conduct of cooperative or joint activities with small business firms and educational institutions that need technology-related assistance from a federal laboratory.
The fair was attended by 720 middle school and high school students. The APEX booth welcomed upwards of 150 students, and more than 40 students joined the APEX chat room. The students’ questions ranged from wanting to know about specific careers offered at Parallax/ APEX to the educational requirements needed to achieve their STEM career goals.
The opportunity to expose high school (or middle and high school) students to the careers that are offered by industry leaders is crucial. By Parallax/ APEX participating in events such as the Dayton Regional STEM School career fair, we expose students to the information they need to make decisions about their college careers and futures.
Parallax’s next virtual career fair booth will appear May 10 - 14 at the DO STEM Career Week in partnership with the DO STEM Ecosystem. The Dayton Ohio STEM Ecosystem (DO STEM) is a network of collaborative regional partners committed to leveraging resources and opportunities to engage students in STEM activities throughout the Dayton region. The program is led by the Dayton Regional STEM Center and Montgomery County ESC. The event will extend APEX ’s outreach to middle school and high school students across the region.
