APEX Team at Pittsburgh Robotics & AI Discovery Day

Event Overview

Pittsburgh Robotics & AI Discovery Day brought together innovators working in emerging technologies such as robotics, automation, and artificial intelligence (AI). The event featured more than 150 exhibitors and drew thousands of attendees from industry, academia, and government.

APEX (the Academic Partnership Engagement Experiment) participated in the event to connect with organizations advancing technologies with applications for the Department of the Air and Space Force (DAF). The event provided an ideal platform for networking, partnership discussions, and showcasing how APEX helps innovators navigate DAF engagement—from early alignment and funding pathways to transition and acquisition.

APEX’s Role and Participation

APEX’s Process Navigation team engaged with attendees throughout the day at booth #130, co-located with the Pittsburgh Technology Council. The booth served as an information hub for innovators seeking guidance on how to bring their technologies into the DAF ecosystem. The team also facilitated one-on-one meetings between government and industry to explore mission needs and collaboration opportunities.

Key Takeaways and Impact

  • Regional Innovation Leadership: Pittsburgh continues to stand out as a national hub for robotics, autonomy, and AI, supported by a strong academic and industry ecosystem.

  • Expanding APEX’s Reach: Participation expanded APEX’s network and reinforced its role as a trusted connector between the DAF and innovators nationwide.

  • Mission Impact: Engagement advanced APEX’s mission to accelerate the transition of research into operational capability.

Looking Ahead

APEX will continue to engage with regional ecosystems to identify high-potential technologies aligned with DAF priorities. We're excited to keep connecting with innovators and helping turn ideas into impact.
